Description
The Bat-eared Fox (otocyon megalotis), named for its large ears inhabits the short grasslands of the African savannah. Other names for the Bat-eared fox are: big-eared fox, black-eared fox, cape fox and Delande's fox. These nocturnal animals are predominantly insectivores, using their bat-like ears to detect insects as deep as a foot underground. Ants and termites make up the majority of a bat-eared fox's diet.
This image was photographed in the Central Serengeti. The Serengeti National Park in Northern Tanzania, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is probably the best known wildlife sanctuary in the world .and famous for its huge herds of plains animals. The Serengeti derived its name from the Maasai word "serengit" which means "endless plains".
