Description
Butler's Wharf, situated on the south bank of London's Thames River east of Tower Bridge is a historic shipping wharf and storage complex built in the later part of the 19th century. By the mid 20th century, Butler's Wharf, like many other such complexes in the old Port of London docks area fell into disuse. In the late 20th century, the original derelict building was transformed into upscale luxury flats and restaurants. The surrounding area around the complex is also known as Butler's Wharf. The area gained fame in the 1980's as the site of the Dr. Who film set and was also the location of Bill Sykes' hideout in Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist.
