Description
Dark Harbour is located on the west side of New Brunswick’s Grand Manan Island. The pond in the foreground is fed with fresh water from the high volcanic basalt cliffs that surround the pond. The natural seawall of stones separates the fresh water pond from the salt water of the Bay of Fundy. Dark Harbour is famous for its harvest of dulse, an edible seaweed very rich in iron. The dulse is harvested at low tide on the ocean side of the seawall and dried on the rocks during high tide.
