Description
One of my fondest memories as a child was hearing the repetitive call of the Eastern Whip-poor-will on spring and early summer evenings. Sadly, these experiences are rather rare now days because of habitat loss and the decline in available food. These birds are more often heard than seen because of their camouflage and nocturnal nature. The best times to locate them, if you're extremely lucky are at dawn or dusk. Whip-poor-wills forage on insects, catching their prey on the fly.
