Description
Located in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field in the Andes Mountains on the border of Argentina and Chile, Fitz Roy Massif is the crowning jewel of Argentina's Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I had the pleasure of hiking in the area in 2009. Here's an entry from my journal dated November 22, 2009.
I woke up early this morning, dressed and exited the tent at about 5:15. I took my camera down to the lagoon to photograph the sun as it crept over the face of Fitz Roy Massif. The sky was clear blue over the mountain. I watched in awe as the sun first struck the very tip of the peak and slowly descend down the entire cliff face. I've never witnessed such a spectacular sight in all my life - truly and emotional experience. It reminded me of the song lyrics recorded by Lucille Star many years ago from a song simply entitled The French Song: "Quand le soleil dit bonjour au montagnes", (When the sun says hello to the mountains). There I was, silently taking it all in; just me, a couple of other campers and the mountain absorbing wonders of nature.
