Description
The Galapagos Land Iguana, endemic to the Galapagos Islands belongs to the lizard family. These iguanas can growth in length from three to five feet and weigh up to 25 pounds. The Galapagos Land Iguana has a symbiotic relationship with birds. The birds gain a source of food through eating parasites and ticks thus relieving their hosts of these pests. Eighty percent of the Land Iguana's diet comes from eating the fruit, flowers, pads and spines of the prickly-pear cactus. Most of their moisture also is provided by this cactus.
