Description
The Great Egret (Ardea Alba) also known as the Common Egret, Large Egret and Great White Heron ( in Africa, Europe and Asia) can be found on every continent except Antarctica. They wade in shallow water (both fresh and salt) and stalk fish, amphibians, aquatic invertebrates and reptiles. In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Great Egrets were almost hunted to extinction for their plumes which were valued in the fashion industry. Because of conservation laws, the Great Egret has made a successful recovery
