Description
Of all the vireos, the Philadelphia Vireo is the most northerly breeding species breeding in the northern boreal forest and wintering in the tropics. This small songbird was first discovered by John Cassin near Philadelphia in the mid 1800s. Despite its name, it is a rarity in Philadelphia, only seen occasionally during migration. The Philadelphia Vireo resembles the more abundant Red-eyed vireo in its plumage and song. A group of vireos is collectively known as a "call" of vireos.
