Description
Red-necked Grebes (podiceps grisegena) are fairly large grebes that are superb swimmers and excellent divers, disappearing underwater to catch small fish and crustaceans. Their aquatic environment includes shallow fresh water lakes, bays, marshes and other inland bodies of water. The monogamous pair builds their nest on floating vegetation where the female lays four to five eggs.
This male Ren-necked Grebe is ready to defend his territory from another male who has come a little too close to his territory.
Photographed at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto, Ontario.
