Description
The Wilson’s Snipe (Gallinago delicata), was named to commemorate American ornithologist Alexander Wilson. These plump, stocky sandpipers use their extremely long bills to probe soft earth or mud for insects, earthworms and plant matter. Because of their mottled brown coloration, they conceal themselves well grasslands. In summer, they are often seen on fence posts along roadsides.
Photographed at the Carden Alvar north of Kirkfield, Ontario
