Description
The Red-breasted Merganser (mergus serrator) is a large, diving duck with a long thin red bill with serrated edges. After surfacing from a successful dive, this female merganser tossed her head back and swallowed the fish whole.
Photographed in Burlington Ontario with a Canon 5D Mark III.

Amazing capture here too! This fish looks even more spiky/formidable and huge (do you know what kind here as well?) caught and already headed down a bit! I'm would think this fish would be resisting it's demise heading down her gullet much more? So the hungry female bird managed to win the battle of "life and lunch" and gulp that whole thing okay? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling all the way down as well?!
