Artist's Description

These plump little sparrows (spizella arborea) are distinguished by their small bills and long tails when compared to other sparrows. A rusty cap and eyeline on a gray head and a dark smudge on an otherwise clear breast make them easily recognizable. They are very common winter birds in southern Canada and the northern United States. In the spring, they migrate to their breeding grounds in the arctic tundra

I'm a retired teacher living in Southern Ontario, Canada. I worked 35 years full time and 10 years part time as a classroom teacher and guidance counselor with the Peel District School Board. I also worked part time in the Faculties of Education of York University and the University of Toronto in their Additional Qualifications Programs. I purchased my first SLR camera back in the 60's and instantly fell in love with photography. My love of the outdoors led to my keen interest in hiking and nature/wildlife photography.
