Description
These plump little sparrows are distinguished by their small bills and long tails when compared to other sparrows. A rusty cap and eyeline on a gray head and a dark smudge on an otherwise clear breast make them easily recognizable. They are very common winter birds in southern Canada and the northern United States. In the spring, they migrate to their breeding grounds in the arctic tundra.
