Description
Boreal owls are common in the Boreal forests of North America, Europe and Asia. In North America they are known as Boreal Owls, named after the Greek God of the North Wind. In other parts of the world they are known as Tengmalms owls, after the Swedish naturalist Gustaf Tengmalm. These nocturnal owls are slightly larger than the Saw Whet measuring 8 - 11 inches ( 20-28 cm) in height. Not normally migratory, these owls will occasionally visit more southern reaches beyond their range when food is scarce in their home turf.

Great capture! I like the way the small branches reflect the pattern in his feathers. L
