Description
The Common Yellowthroat is a small warbler that breeds throughout Alaska, Canada and the continental United States and migrates to the southern U.S. and the tropics during the winter. Their wichety-wichety-wichety-twich song is a common sound around wetlands as they forage low to the ground searching for small insects and spiders. The male is easily recognizable because of his black mask that gives him the appearance of a bandit. Females tend to prefer males with large masks when looking for a mate. The males are known to be monogamous during the breeding season. Females, however, are not as faithful to their male companions and often attract other males with their calls.
Photographed at Sedge Wren Marsh in the Carden Alvar with a Canon 5D, Mark III.
