Description
The Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla) is easily identified by its very loud, rapid-fire “teacher, teacher, teacher” song that resonates throughout North American hardwood forests. Its voice may be loud, but the bird itself is rather small and inconspicuous because of its olive-brown back and spotted breast which disguise it well as it forages for invertebrates on the leaf littered forest floor. The oven bird, a member of the warbler family gets its name from its leaf covered dome nest which resembles a miniature Dutch oven.
