This medium sized diving duck is aptly named because of its large, bright red head. This along with its gray back, dark breast, blue beak and yellow eyes give the Redhead a striking appearance. Female Redheads often don't build nests of their own, but lay eggs in the nests of other birds including other Redheads and up to 10 other species of ducks. Redheads feed mainly on diving or dabbling, eating mainly aquatic plants and molluscs.
