Description
The Sedge Wren (Cistothorus platensis) breeds in savanna, grasslands and wetland ecosystems. This bird was photographed at the Sedge Wren Marsh in Ontario’s Carden Alvar. Although it is referred to as the Sedge Wren Marsh, the Sedge Wren is not an annual visitor since these small birds tend to be highly transitory moving around from year to year to breed in different locations. These active little birds scamper around the reeds and wet meadows foraging on insects and spiders. The Sedge Wren looks similar to its larger cousin, the Marsh Wren, but can be differentiated from the Marsh Wren by its smaller size, streaked crown and different song.
