Description
The Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) is a medium sized owl with large eyes, broad wings and big head. Their name comes from the tufts of feathers (usually not visible) resembling ears. Found in open country and grasslands, they are fairly easy to spot since they hunt during daylight hours, especially in early evening. When not hunting, they perch in low trees, fence posts and on the ground.
