Description
The Steenbok ( Raphicerus Campestris), also known as Steinbok or Steinbuck, is a small antelope that inhabits open savannah country in East Africa. There is also a large population in South Africa. The open savannah provides a safe haven from predators in the form of bushes and tall grasses. Their main strategy when threatened is to hide by lying on the ground and freezing. If a predator continues to approach, the Steenbok will sprint a short distance and hide again in the ample cover provided by their habitat.
Monogamous pairs of Steenbok occupy territories, but tend to be live independently except when they come together to mate.
