The Long-tailed duck, formerly known as "Oldsquaw", is a diving duck that breeds in the Arctic and spends the winter in more southerly regions along both coasts and interior lakes of North America. One of the deepest diving ducks, Long-tailed Ducks can forage in waters as deep as 60 meters (200 feet) although they usually feed close to the surface on mollusks, crustaceans and small fish. You often see these ducks diving together in large groups - quite a spectacle
