Description
The Eastern Bluebird is the state bird of Missouri and New York. Once in decline as a result of habitat loss, bluebirds are making a comeback thanks to nesting boxes that have been erected on country properties, conservation areas and along country roads. The bird in this image is a new fledgling from a nesting box on one of the Bruce Trail managed properties. The females build the nests and incubate between 3 and 8 eggs. Bluebirds raise more than one brood in a single season. Young from the first broods usually leave their parents in summer, while the young from later nests often stay with their parents over the winter.
