The Canada Warbler, Cardellina Canadnsis, is sometimes referred to as the Necklaced Warbler because of the band of dark streaks across its yellow breast. Like many warblers, it received its name from the location in which it was first discovered, in this case, Canada. This beautiful bird is one of the last warblers to arrive at its breading grounds, largely in the boreal forest, in the spring and one of the first to head south to its wintering location in South America in the fall. Canada Warblers have experienced an alarming decline over the last few decades due to habitat loss and degradation both in its breading grounds and wintering location. Because of this, it has been assessed as threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada.
