During the rutting season in the fall, bull moose come down from the high country in search of mates. In this photo, the bull is displaying a lip curl or flehmen behavior after detecting the scent of a receptive cow that indicates the cow's readiness for mating.

I'm a retired teacher living in Southern Ontario, Canada. I worked 35 years full time and 10 years part time as a classroom teacher and guidance counselor with the Peel District School Board. I also worked part time in the Faculties of Education of York University and the University of Toronto in their Additional Qualifications Programs.
