Artist's Description
The Martial eagle (polemaetus bellicosus) is the largest of the African eagle species found in open plains, savannah and semi desert habitat in sub-Saharan Africa. These very powerful majestic birds weigh up to 14 pounds (6.5 kg.) with a wingspan of over 2 metres. Birds as large as the European Stork make up part of their diet. Small mammals like the Hyrax and small antelopes are also hunted by the Martial Eagle. The eagle in this image was photographed in Tarangire National Park in Tanzania.
