Of the four kinds of Boobies found in the Galapagos (blue-footed, red-footed, brown and Nazca) the blue-footed is the most common. The blue color of the Blue-footed Booby's feet come from a pigment obtained in its fish diet. The brightness of its feet indicate the health of the bird. As a blue-footed booby ages, the brightness of its feet decreases. Females, therefore tend to select younger mates with more brightly colored feet since these males are more likely to be fertile and be better at providing food for their young.

I'm a retired teacher living in Southern Ontario, Canada. I worked 35 years full time and 10 years part time as a classroom teacher and guidance counselor with the Peel District School Board. I also worked part time in the Faculties of Education of York University and the University of Toronto in their Additional Qualifications Programs. I purchased my first SLR camera back in the 60's and instantly fell in love with photography. My love of the outdoors led to my keen interest in hiking and nature/wildlife photography. Yes I echo "those blue feet" and the wonderful capture. What I think also strengthens this composition is the war sienna in the upper left-hand corner and the crazy textures of the grasses against the smoothness of the feathers.
