Description
The Great Gray Owl, is North America's largest owl in terms of height and wingspan. Thanks to its large facial disk, the Great Gray has exceptional hearing. It can detect prey at great distances and up to two feet (sixty centimeters) beneath the snow surface. When a potential source of food is located, it slides off its perch, silently glides parallel to the ground and pounces upon its unsuspecting prey. These owls hunt at night as well as early in the morning and late afternoon/early evening.

Love the composition. But I have to say...its stare is pretty intense and I have to look away first!

What wonderful detail in this amazing capture Gary. He does look annoyed at being photographed...I can just hear him saying "How dare you"
