Description
The name Brown Thrasher comes from the thrashing sound they make while foraging on the forest floor or smashing large insects. Although it's sometimes erroneously called a Brown Thrush and it closely resembles a Wood Thrush, the Brown Thrasher is not a member of the thrush family. These elusive birds, which are more often heard than seen, are excellent songsters singing more than 1100 different songs including imitations of Chuck-wills-widows, Northern Flickers and Wood Thrushes. The Brown Thrasher is the state bird of Georgia.
