Description
The Cheetah (acinonyx jubatus) is known for its amazing speed. They can accelerate to speeds of up to 45 mph (72 kph) within 2.5 seconds and briefly reach a top speed of 70 mph (112 kph). This ability to run so fast is the result of the Cheetah's slender long-legged body built for speed. Cheetah's also use their tail as rudders to help them steer and turn in the direction they want to go. The tear marks that run down the sides of theur face help reflect the glare of the African sun when hunting during the daytime. The cheetah is Africa's most endangered big cat with less than 8000 left in the wild.
