Description
The Snowy Owl, also known as the Arctic Owl or Great White Owl, breeds in the Arctic tundra. These heavy set owls stand about 53 to 65 cm.( 20" to 25") in height with a wingspan from 125 to 150 cm. ( 50" - 60"). These owls are diurnal, hunting during both daytime and nighttime hours. This makes them relatively easy to photograph. Males are almost pure white, while females and juvenile birds tend to be heavily barred like this one. The winter of 2013 - 2014 is proving to be an exceptional year for snowy owl irruption into southern Canada and the northern United States.
